Dry and Itchy Skin

By Richard Ellis

Dry and itchy skin caused by exposure to chlorinated water from tap water can be quite uncomfortable.

There are several steps you can take to prevent and alleviate these symptoms.

Consider installing a water filter into your home or a filter showerhead or tap to reduce chlorine levels in the water you use for bathing and washing.

Limiting the length of your showers and using lukewarm instead of hot water can also help, as hot water can strip your skin of natural oils, exacerbating dryness.

After exposure to chlorinated water, rinse your skin thoroughly with clean, non-chlorinated water.

Chlorine removal can happen using Whole House Filters such as 10-inch units for smaller homes and 20-Inch units for larger homes. For a simple effective system that in the kitchen cold water supply is Chloro Zap under bench filter.

In your daily skincare routine, use a humidifier in your home to maintain optimal humidity levels, which can prevent skin from drying out. Ensure you drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep your skin hydrated from the inside out. Be cautious with products that contain alcohol, fragrances, or other potential irritants that can exacerbate dryness and itching.

Opting for soft, natural fabrics like cotton that are gentle on the skin and using hypoallergenic laundry detergents that are free of dyes and fragrances and the water is free from Chlorine to look after your clothes.

If your skin remains dry and itchy despite these measures, or if you develop a rash, redness, or other severe reactions, it is important to consult a dermatologist. They can provide specific treatments or identify if there is another underlying condition contributing to your skin issues.

By incorporating these strategies into your routine, you can manage and reduce the effects of chlorine on your skin, helping to maintain healthy, comfortable skin.
